Bayer Leverkusen are on the hunt for a new man in defense.
After the departure of their long-time leader to Bayern Munich, the German club is looking to strengthen their defensive core.
They need someone who can lead at the back, stay calm under pressure, and even drive the ball forward to help build attacks.
Leverkusen’s scouts have been busy, focusing on a player who might not yet be a household name, but one who has all the tools to fit perfectly into their system.
This defender is young, quick, and comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Leverkusen are targeting someone who can step in right away and make an immediate impact.
With such a crucial role to fill, they have their eye on one particular player, someone who could be the next big thing in defence.
Liverpool’s 22-year-old England U-21 centre-back Jarell Quansah is drawing Leverkusen’s attention.
According to Kicker, Leverkusen are showing “strong interest” in Quansah, calling him a “prime candidate” to replace their outgoing defensive leader.
“The German runners-up are showing strong interest in Liverpool central defender Jarell Quansah.”
“The England U-21 international is a prime candidate to fill the void left by defensive leader Jonathan Tah ‘s move to FC Bayern Munich”
Standing at 1.90 m, Quansah is not only physically imposing but also boasts impressive pace and composure on the ball—exactly what Leverkusen are looking for in their next centre-back.
Quansah has been shining for England at the U-21 Euros in Slovakia, and his performances there could further raise his price tag.
Despite his potential, he’s had limited opportunities at Liverpool.
Last season, he made only 13 Premier League appearances, with nine of those coming off the bench.
The season before, he started just 13 games.
With the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Joe Gomez ahead of him in the pecking order, regular first-team football has been hard to come by.
Liverpool value Quansah at around €30-35 million (£25-30 million), and Leverkusen are rumored to need upwards of €30 million, possibly closer to the low-40s.
From Liverpool’s perspective, Quansah wants more playing time, and Leverkusen could offer him the chance to be a regular starter.
If the right deal comes along, Liverpool might be willing to let him go, as long as it fits their summer plans.
For Quansah, it would be a chance to take the next step in his development, while for Liverpool, it could be a smart piece of business.
