Jeremie Frimpong and Bayer Leverkusen were crowned Bundesliga champions earlier this April, the club’s first league title in its 116-year history and was the club’s first trophy since winning the 1992–93 DFB-Pokal.

Leverkusen’s Bundesliga-winning season was a remarkable campaign that captivated fans and showcased the side’s resilience and determination across an entire season.

Xabi Alonso has dramatically revitalized Bayer Leverkusen since taking the helm in October 2022.

Before his arrival, the Bundesliga club was languishing near the relegation zone.

Coming from his initial managerial position with Real Sociedad’s reserve team, Alonso’s appointment was considered a gamble by Leverkusen due to his relative inexperience.

In his debut season, Alonso steered Leverkusen to a 6th place finish, securing European competition for the 2022/23 season.

Leverkusen won the Bundesliga with a convincing 5-0 win over Werder Bremen on April 14.

The BayArena was swarmed as fans of the historic club celebrated previously unconquered peaks.

The Spaniard also guided Leverkusen into the final of the DFB-Pokal as well the semi-final of the Europa League.

This means that the treble is on for Leverkusen, a miraculous achievement.

Jeremie Frimpong impact at Bayer Leverkusen

The Dutch right-back has been outstanding for Leverkusen this season, showcasing remarkable form.

At just 23 years old, he has tallied 13 goals and contributed 11 assists in 41 games across all competitions—a truly exceptional achievement for a player classified as a defender.

These impressive statistics rival those of many forwards, highlighting his unique impact on the field.

He is among the Leverkusen players who have thrived significantly under Xabi Alonso’s guidance.

Alonso’s tactical focus on wingback play has allowed players like Jeremie Frimpong and left-back Alejandro Grimaldo to excel.

Both have established themselves as some of the top players globally in their positions.

Frimpong is a player that could be on the move this summer with a whole host of clubs keen on a player of his quality.

Back in February, he offered his thoughts on Liverpool, saying:

Alonso’s side are unbeaten at this late stage of the season and have just three games to go in the league for them to earn this achievement.

In recent weeks, Leverkusen have scored plenty of late goals to keep their streak alive.

Just this past weekend, Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich scored in 90+6 to level the scores at 2-2 against Stuttgart and keep the dream alive.

Sitting down with goal Jeremie Frimpong was asked to name his best XI from the top three (Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal) in the Premier League.

It’s safe to say that he rates Liverpool very highly and this was reflected in his choices.

He chose:

Alisson over Ederson and Aaron Ramsdale

It then seems like the 23-year-old is aware of just how good some of the Liverpool players are in the squad, despite perhaps not getting as much media attention as some of the Arsenal and City representatives.

It is more than likely that a club comes in for Frimpong in the summer, but with Trent Alexander-Arnold at the club – it will surely not be Liverpool.
