Newcastle United remain in the market for a new striker in the final days of the summer transfer window, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak’s future.

The Magpies have so far stood firm against Liverpool’s efforts to prise the 25-year-old away, despite the player making clear his desire to leave.

With Callum Wilson already departing and no replacement yet secured, Newcastle find themselves in a difficult position.

Brentford’s Yoane Wissa remains out of reach, while Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, and Benjamin Sesko have all slipped through their grasp.

When asked about the possibility of losing Isak without signing a replacement, manager Eddie Howe said: “I don’t think the club will allow that situation to happen.

“We certainly can’t go through the season with no recognised striker at the football club – and that’s no disrespect to Will Osula.

“I think he’s doing really well and he’s progressing really well, but he’s got limited experience in the Premier League, although I’m really happy with his career progression.

“But Alex at the moment would be the only striker we have with Premier League history of goals and appearances and starts, so we can’t leave ourselves in that position.”

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, but their hopes of securing his signature appear to be fading.

Jackson joined the Blues from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 and has since scored 30 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions.

His performances helped the Blues lift both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup last season.

However, Newcastle could miss out on the 23-year-old this summer, with Bayern Munich now leading the race.

According to Sport Bild’s Christian Falk, the Bundesliga champions have already agreed personal terms with the Senegal international and are in negotiations with Chelsea over a potential loan deal.
