Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has taken a swipe at Liverpool's new signing Florian Wirtz, insisting the German international would have been better off joining the Bavarians.
The 22-year-old midfielder snubbed Bayern to join the Reds in a whopping £100million deal from Bayer Leverkusen, leaving the Bundesliga bosses seething.
Despite making an assist on his debut for Hugo Ekitike in the Community Shield, Wirtz has faced criticism for a 'slow' start at Anfield, failing to register a goal or assist in the Premier League so far.
However, Rummenigge, a Bayern legend and current board member, has criticised the young player.
The 69-year-old bitterly insisted that Wirtz made the wrong decision by choosing Liverpool over Bayern.
"I have to say honestly, in the case of Florian Wirtz, it still hurts, I feel sorry for him," he confessed to Sport Bild.
"Because I believe the player would have been better off at Bayern than at Liverpool.
"We could have signed Woltemade.
And when the three players who are currently injured come back soon, then we'll have a great team."
Bayern have made an excellent start to the season.
Indeed, Vincent Kompany's side have won each of their first seven competitive matches, including four in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League.
They ran out 4-1 winners at Hoffenheim on Saturday, with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick and Serge Gnabry getting on the scoresheet as Bayern continued their winning start to the campaign.
