Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has discussed all the transfer speculation surrounding Florian Wirtz.

Earlier this week, widespread reports asserted that Liverpool officials met with Florian Wirtz and his family in England earlier this week to communicate their interest in signing the player should he opt to leave Germany.

Their approach comes as competition intensifies from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, with Bayern widely regarded as favorites after reportedly securing a verbal agreement from Wirtz.

Manchester City, for their part, see the German international as a possible long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne.

The midfielder is under contract until 2027, and Leverkusen have set a €150 million (£126.5m) asking price-though this figure is believed to be lower for clubs outside Germany.

The substantial valuation is intended to discourage Bayern Munich, as Leverkusen would prefer to transfer Wirtz abroad rather than strengthen a domestic rival, potentially giving Premier League clubs an advantage in negotiations.

And amid claims that Bayern Munich had agreed a deal in principle, Bayern director Max Eberl is ignoring these reports.

Speaking to reporters when quizzed on these claims, he said:

“What am I supposed to say about that?

Florian Wirtz and his family are free to visit friends in Manchester, Liverpool or wherever, in Madrid, I don’t know.”

“And of course we are confronted with that because it’s said that ‘Florian Wirtz will join Bayern’ – nobody knows that.”

He added that he won’t let this saga affect their planning at the Allianz Arena this summer:

“Florian Wirtz is under contract at Bayer Leverkusen for now, that is the current state of affairs.”

“And all the speculation – a deal is agreed, when is the signing, when is the medical and so on – that’s what we have to ignore because we are doing the job, we are doing the work and maybe know the well-found facts a little better than speculation or any talk around him.”

And not letting this affect [our work] is the art.”
