Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has commented on Florian Wirtz and his move to Liverpool.

The Bavarians were thought to be leading the race for the German international and had reportedly secured some form of assurances from Wirtz’s father, Hans.

However, Liverpool eventually emerged as the frontrunners for the 22-year-old after entering the fray a few weeks ago.

The Reds had reportedly met Wirtz and his family, and a face-to-face meeting between the player and Arne Slot convinced him to choose a move to Anfield over joining Bayern Munich.

As it stands, the 22-year-old has verbally agreed to Liverpool’s offer, and a deal for him is expected in the coming days after Liverpool reached verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen, as Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday.

Although an official agreement is yet to be reached, both clubs are confident a deal will be struck in the coming days.

Negotiations are still ongoing over the structure of the deal, and Wirtz could be due for a medical as early as next week, according to a recent report from Sky Germany.

Having already conceded defeat in the race for Wirtz, Bayern Munich director, Max Eberl, has now revealed his feelings about his side missing out on the 22-year-old.

Speaking to newsmen (via Sky Germany), Max Eberl said this about missing out on Florian Wirtz and FC Bayern’s transfer plans:

“If I’m being honest, I don’t know if we could have matched what Liverpool are apparently paying now.

Florian Wirtz is an outstanding player.

But when one door closes, another one opens.”

Liverpool have reportedly offered Leverkusen €150 million for Wirtz, making him the third most expensive player in history behind Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

The transfer is set to make Wirtz the most expensive player in Liverpool and Premier League history.

Talks are now focused on the structure of the final details of the transfer, including the value of the add-ons and how achievable they are.
