The summer transfer window is just around the corner, and clubs are moving quickly to secure their targets.

Free agents are the most attractive pieces on the market, especially those with experience at the highest level.

One Bundesliga star is now at the centre of a tug-of-war involving several top European sides.

He’s been tracked by Liverpool for a while.

They were seriously interested last summer and even kept tabs.

But there’s a twist.

While Liverpool have shown interest before, another top European club has just jumped into the race and they’re moving fast.

What makes this interesting is that the player had already agreed to join another club months ago.

But due to financial issues, that deal hasn’t been closed yet.

And now, the door is wide open.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is set to leave the club this summer when his contract expires on June 30.

Liverpool have been long-time admirers of the 29-year-old and were strongly linked with him last year.

He was seen as a potential reinforcement for their backline, especially with questions surrounding Joel Matip’s future and defensive depth.

However, FC Barcelona had been working on a deal with Tah since last year.

They even reached an agreement in principle with him.

But due to Financial Fair Play concerns, the Catalan club hasn’t been able to finalise anything.

That delay has left the door open for other clubs.

Bayern Munich are now pushing hard to sign Tah on a free.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Bundesliga champions are in “concrete negotiations with the defender and his representatives.”

They reportedly want to wrap up a deal quickly and are making a serious effort.

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany, along with directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, are all “pushing for the deal as they see the Leverkusen star as their main target to reinforce the defence.”

That restlessness is key.

If Barcelona don’t act fast, Bayern could swoop in and complete the signing.

With Real Madrid also watching the situation, Liverpool will have to decide whether to re-enter the race or move on.

But with the club now eyeing young options like Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez, a move for the German defender appears unlikely.

For now, Bayern are firmly in the lead.
