Bayern Munich have reportedly turned their attention to another player as an alternative for Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season that culminated in the Reds lifting the Premier League title and reaching the Carabao Cup final.
He was one of Arne Slot’s most trusted players, making 49 appearances in all competitions.
He also scored 18 goals and assisted seven across all competitions this season.
The Dutchman emerged as a Bayern Munich target just about two weeks ago, with the German club said to be comnsidering him as one of their targets for the attack.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl has identified the Liverpool man as a viable solution for a problematic left-wing position in Bavaria.
German publication Kicker, also revealed that the Bayern’s sporting director is “in contact” with the attacker’s representatives as the Bavarian giants seek attacking reinforcements.
Gakpo himself recently responded to claims he was wanted by Bayern, revealing that he is yet to hear about the Bundesliga side’s interest.
“I haven’t heard anything about it myself.
I’m closing myself off from it,” the Liverpool attacker said.
“Maybe my agent has heard something, but I am focusing on myself.”
It appears that the Bavarians are not banking on the possiblity of Gakpo joining and have set their sights on another.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who was one of the first to break the news of Bayern’s interest has revealed that the German champions have made Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola their primary target for the left wing.
“Bradley Barcola is FC Bayern’s top target in their search for a high-profile left winger,” the journalist wrote on X.
“If a move for Barcola proves impossible, Nico Williams is the top alternative?
Max Eberl is also keeping other options open – including Mitoma, Leão and Gakpo,” he added.
Gakpo is not a player who Liverpool would want to lose, but the stark reality is that every asset has its price.
Most reports on the Dutchman’s transfer to the Reds in 2023 place the final amount at around £37 million, potentially rising to £44 million with add-ons.
It’s clear that the Anfield club would want to sell the player at a marked-up price for an individual they developed for two seasons.
