Bayern Munich reportedly launched a shock summer swoop to sign a former Liverpool forward.

The German champions were active in the market last summer, securing the services of Luis Diaz on a four-year deal, which brought his three-and-a-half-year stint at Anfield to an end.

The 28-year-old was left out of Liverpool’s pre-season match against AC Milan amid ongoing speculation over his future.

After rejecting Bayern’s initial offer of £58.6million earlier in July, Liverpool accepted a follow-up bid of £65.5million.

Diaz left the Reds as a Premier League champion, having won four major trophies during his time at Liverpool.

According to The Athletic, Bayern also explored a late move for Raheem Sterling.

The approach came during talks with Chelsea over Nicolas Jackson’s loan deal.

Sterling, however, opted to remain in London with his partner and children, unwilling to commit to a nine-month stint abroad without assurances of regular playing time.

Despite the promise of trophies and Champions League football, Sterling turned them down.

There had been talk of a loan move within the capital, with a few Premier League rivals exploring possibilities, including Fulham, West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

However, nothing progressed beyond preliminary discussions.

Instead of joining Bayern, he is now stuck in Stamford Bridge’s “bomb squad,” training away from Enzo Maresca’s first-team plans alongside players like Axel Disasi, with only January offering a potential escape.

Chelsea have since made a clear statement, leaving him out of the club’s official squad photo for the season.

He is yet to be included in Chelsea’s matchday squad this campaign.
