Liverpool supporters woke this morning to the news that the long-running saga surrounding Luis Díaz has come to an end.
Whispers of an exit had grown steadily louder throughout pre-season, culminating in his surprise omission from Arne Slot’s squad for the friendly defeat against AC Milan last weekend.
The absence raised eyebrows on Merseyside and fuelled speculation that an agreement with Bayern Munich was close.
An excerpt from a Liverpool statement read on the £65.5m exit:
“Luis Diaz has completed a permanent transfer to Bayern Munich after three-and-a-half years with Liverpool.”
“The Colombian departs the Reds having played a significant role in the lifting of four major trophies since arriving from FC Porto in early 2022, highlighted by Premier League title glory last term.”
Meanwhile, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany has reported that Diaz has penned a deal that keeps him at Bayern Munich until 2029, with the club holding the option to extend for an extra year.
The Colombian winger is due to be officially unveiled to the media at a press conference on Thursday, after which he will link up with his new teammates for his first training session.
If all goes according to plan, Díaz is expected to make his Bayern debut this Saturday in a pre-season clash against Olympique Lyon.
