Bayern Munich appear serious in their pursuit of Luis Diaz this summer.
The transfer winds are swirling around Anfield, and the Colombian appears to be at the center of an increasingly complex summer saga.
While the Reds have been adamant about keeping their key players, the reality on the ground is that sale could happen.
The 28-year-old, who scored 17 goals and provided eight assists in Liverpool’s Premier League-winning campaign, would benefit financially from any transfer with an improved deal.
He has two years remaining on his deal at Anfield, with the club not looking to extend his deal as things according to Paul Joyce.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl is reportedly conducting multiple rounds of talks with the player’s representatives.
The German giants have been busy this summer, having already missed out on high-profile targets like Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams, making their pursuit of Diaz all the more crucial.
According to German publication BILD, Bayern have now submitted their opening offer – a €52 million bid that represents their first concrete move in what promises to be a complex negotiation.
However, this figure falls significantly short of Liverpool’s reported valuation, which hovers around the €80 million mark.
Now Christian Falk has reported that, internally, the perennial Bundesliga winners have already decided to not go past an “upper limit” of €60m [£51.6m] plus bonuses for the Colombian:
“Max Eberl and Bayern’s recruitment team are understood to have submitted a bid worth €52m [£44.8m] for Luis Diaz,” Falk writes on his eponymous website.
“It’s worth pointing out that the club has room to go higher, if need be.”
“An upper limit of €60m [£51.6m] plus possible bonuses for Diaz had been pre-decided ahead of negotiations with the Premier League champions.”
“However, it remains to be seen just how amenable the Merseysiders will be in negotiations.”
“There is an expectation – despite the player having expressed his interest in a move to Munich – that Arne Slot’s outfit will look to demand closer to €80m [£69m].”
Throughout this speculation, Liverpool have maintained a firm stance that Diaz is not for sale.
Speaking in Colombia last week, Diaz said on his future:
“We’re there, negotiating.
We’ll see what can be achieved, for us and for the club.
We’ll try to do our best and make the best decision.”
He added:
“We’re in the process of negotiations, talking with the club, with Liverpool, with everyone who’s approaching us.”
“But I’m very calm where I am, you know, very happy?
Trying to make the best decision, now,” Diaz said.
