Bayern Munich may have moved on from their pursuit of Florian Wirtz, according to the latest update from Germany.

Up until few days ago,the Bavarians were thought to be in the lead for the signature of Wirtz.

The Bundesliga giants have been courting Wirtz for some time now and reportedly had an agreement in place with his representatives about a move to the Alianz Arena.

However, things changed quickly after Liverpool entered the race.

The Reds reportedly met with the Germany international and his family in Blackpool a few days ago.

It was in that meeting that the Liverpool project was sold to the 22-year-old.

The attacking midfielder also had a conversation with Arne Slot, which proved a turning point.

As a result, he has now agreed to move to Anfield, and Liverpool are currently speaking with Bayer Leverkusen about the financial details of the deal.

While no official announcement has been made, it appears Bayern Munich has now conceded defeat in the race and have turned their attention to another winger.

This is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who reports that the Bavarians have identified Brighton star Karou Mitoma as a player they may sign if they fail in their attempt to sign Wirtz.

“Kaoru Mitoma (28, Brighton) is on FC Bayern’s shortlist for the new season,” the journalist wrote on X earlier on Friday.

Plettenberg later provided more updates on the Mitoma to Bayern news, reporting that the Japan international is open to joining the German champions.

“Kaoru Mitoma has signalled that he is very open to a move to FC Bayern this summer,” he posted on X.

The journalist further highlighted that a deal for Mitoma will depend on Bayern’s pursuit of Wirtz, who is increasingly looking likely to move to Liverpool.

“Bayern’s interest in the 28 y/o Japanese winger is currently very concrete,” he added.

“Meetings and talks with his agents have already taken place.

However, Max Eberl has not yet submitted an official offer.

“Bayern’s next steps depend heavily on the situation surrounding Florian Wirtz.

Mitoma would be considered a replacement for Coman/Sané.”
