Liverpool Women manager Matt Beard admits he is surprised Grace Fisk is yet to receive an England call-up.

Fisk was recently named the club’s Player of the Month for March after scoring her first goal in a 4-1 win at Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League.

The 26-year-old was also an ever-present for the Reds last month in a debut season which has seen her talked about as a potential England international.

But Beard is at a loss as to why Fisk is yet to feature in Sarina Wiegman’s plans despite the Lionesses being without Millie Bright since November.

“She’s been fantastic She’s come in and it’s like she’s been here for years,” said Beard.

“Obviously it’s beneficial that she knew one or two of the players and we’d worked together before.

“But I can’t understand why she’s not in the England squad.

“I’ve not even had a phone call from the England manager since we’ve been back in the Super League.

“It’s interesting because Fisky is a fantastic one-v-one defender, her distribution’s great.

“She’s played on her weaker side all season for us; she’s played at full-back, in central midfield so she offers versatility.

“When I see a couple of injuries in that backline with Millie Bright missing, I don’t understand why she isn’t in the frame for the squad at least.

“But she’s a talented player, that’s for sure.”

Liverpool travel to relegation-threatened Bristol City on Saturday aiming to close the gap on Manchester United in the battle for a fourth-place finish.
