Liverpool edged past Newcastle courtesy of a last-minute winner from Rio Ngumoha.

The Reds continued their winning start to the season but left it late for the second game in a row, this time against the 10 men of Newcastle.

After going 2-0 up, Liverpool conceded two cheap goals to let their lead slip, with the Magpies looking like they might nick the win.

However, cometh the hour cometh the man and 16-year-old Ngumoha came off the bench to win it for the Reds right at the very end, making it a proper smash-and-grab result.

And, Theo Walcott has revealed what that goal made him feel, with it almost bringing him to tears.

Ngumoha has made a real name for himself throughout pre-season, with many fans wondering whether he will get minutes this season.

However, Arne Slot hinted that he was not part of his plans only recently, leaving many to think that if he is to get minutes, they will be very few and far between.

But, he has proven once again why he thinks he should be getting regular minutes, and Walcott admitted that seeing him score almost brought a tear to his eye.

“Beautiful.

Incredible scenes.”

Newcastle vs Liverpool always brings up late drama but this was one of the most historic moments for quite some time, with Ngumoha now the Reds’ youngest scorer in their history.

At just 16, all the questions will be about whether he is capable of stepping up, but if you are good enough, you are certainly old enough.

And, Ngumoha proved that once again, with his pace causing the tiring Newcastle defence real problems, with the teenager getting his reward with a goal.

This is something that Liverpool fans could see more often as the Englishman could be a real threat off the bench, adding something a lot different to what Cody Gakpo can bring.

It is definitely a moment that will be remembered for a very long time and in the grand scheme of things, this could be a pivotal moment come May.
