Liverpool are ready to pay out some significant money in order to improve their team this summer.
The Reds have had a terrific season, winning the Premier League against all expectations.
But with the Liverpool squad still in need of some serious improvement, there is the prospect of further success in the years ahead.
As part of that plan, Liverpool are moving to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz is one of the best young talents in Europe having established himself at Leverkusen over the past five years.
Although the 22-year-old had been expected to sign for Bayern Munich, Liverpool have stolen a march to lead the race.
This has the potential to be an enormous deal for the Reds, surpassing anything they have ever paid before.
And as Liverpool negotiate with Leverkusen for Wirtz, former player turned pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has made a claim over what the eventual fee could be.

Part of the reason Liverpool had not been expected to go in strong for Wirtz was because of the price tag.
The Germany international has previously had a valuation of around £126m, which would comfortably represent a record for Liverpool.

According to Fjortoft, though, this price was reserved for Bayern, who Leverkusen were not willing to sell Wirtz to.
For Liverpool, the fee will still be high – between £105m and £109m – but it will be lowered fairly significantly by the Bundesliga side.

“Leverkusen have said they want €150M [£126m],” the former Middlesbrough striker wrote on X.
“That price was a signal straight to Bayern.
Leverkusen want to sell abroad.
Been told that Liverpool will get the player for around €125 – 130M.”
There is no getting around the fact that Liverpool are going to have to pay a really big fee to get Wirtz out of Leverkusen.
However, the Reds are clearly happy to engage with the German side knowing full well what they could be letting themselves in for.
Journalist Paul Joyce became the latest to confirm Liverpool’s talks with Leverkusen on Friday evening, posting an update on X.
“Liverpool have now formally spoken to Bayer Leverkusen over their desire to sign Florian Wirtz,” Joyce reported.
There is still an agreement to reach between the clubs, but with the parameters clearly laid out already, it will surely not be long before that happens.
