All eyes are already on the future.

With Arne Slot yet to really stamp his mark on the Liverpool squad, there is excitement and intrigue over what the Dutch coach is planning in the transfer market.

The forward line has been the subject of much discussion ahead of the window opening, and it looks especially likely that Slot will make at least one attacking addition.

That could spell danger for the likes of Luis Diaz, who has been regularly linked with a summer exit.

But according to Jamie Carragher, it now looks more likely that Diaz will stay put.

Throughout most of the season there have been two stories about Diaz running parallel to each other.

One featured the 28-year-old signing a new Liverpool contract, the other had him leaving.

Most recently, it has been claimed that Diaz is a target for Saudi Arabia this summer, and it felt probable that he would exit Liverpool after claiming his Premier League winners medal.

However, Sky Sports broke the news on Friday that Liverpool are planning contract discussions with Diaz once the season ends.

The same outlet then asked Carragher for his thoughts on the £37m Colombian as he covered the evening game between Man City and Wolves.

“I think he’s been one of the best left wingers in the Premier League this season,” said the Liverpool legend.

“If I’m being honest, I think for the majority of this season, up until Christmas, I was thinking you sell Luis Diaz in the summer.

But I think the way he’s played and the way Liverpool’s front line might change – and with the fact he can now play through the middle in the manager’s eyes – I think he’s going to stay and it might be other players who move on in the front line other than Luis Diaz”

There is widely expected to be at least one sale from Liverpool’s front line this summer, with Darwin Nunez virtually certain to be sold.

Whether Slot chooses to make any further changes is so far difficult to say.

But there have been real question marks over Nunez, Diaz, Jota and Chiesa.

It seems very unlikely that Liverpool will sell three forwards this summer, but two does not feel to be out of the question.

As a result, we’d suggest that Diaz’s new contract talks do make it more possible that we’re seeing the end of Jota or Chiesa at Anfield.
