Ben Doak is not even in the Liverpool squad to face Yokohama F.
Marinos today.
Arne Slot named a strong XI that included the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Florian Wirtz, and new Liverpool signing Hugo Ekitike.
Even players like Darwin Nunez, who have been touted for a move away, were included in the squad.
Despite Japan grappling with a major tsunami scare following a powerful offshore earthquake, Liverpool’s friendly against Yokohama F?
Marinos is going ahead as planned.
The match preparations have remained uninterrupted, largely thanks to Yokohama’s sheltered location on Tokyo Bay, far from the hardest-hit eastern coastlines.
Local transport routes to the Nissan Stadium are fully operational, and the team’s Tokyo-based training camp was unaffected by the emergency.
While millions elsewhere in Japan were placed on high alert, there’s been no real disruption for Arne Slot’s squad.
However, there has been one disruption for Doak.
According to one report, the winger was unable to obtain the necessary visa to play the fixture in Japan this morning.
The Scotland winger appeared in all three previous friendlies, including two outings as a centre-forward, and contributed a key assist from his usual right-wing position in the 3-1 victory at Preston.
His omission is not believed to be linked to any transfer-related reasons, although the Scot is attracting interest nonetheless.
The likes of Everton, Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth have shown interest, but none have been willing to meet Liverpool’s £25 million-plus asking price.
Doak made 24 appearances for Middlesbrough during his loan spell in the 2024/25 Championship season, registering three goals and seven assists.
He quickly established himself as a key attacking threat for Michael Carrick’s side, earning praise for his pace and directness on the flank.
However, Doak’s progress was severely hampered by injury troubles while on loan.
After lighting up the first half of the campaign, he suffered a thigh injury in late January that ultimately required surgery.
This injury initially sidelined him for several matches before being confirmed as serious enough to end his season early.
Doak returned to Liverpool for rehabilitation and was unable to play again for Middlesbrough, missing the final three months of the campaign
