Liverpool supporters could be forgiven for still reeling from a breathless transfer deadline day on Monday.
Fans knew going into the day that it would be a race against time in their club’s bid to sign both Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi.
While terms were agreed with Newcastle for Isak fairly early on, Liverpool‘s attempts to sign Guehi were much more topsy-turvy.
At various stages during the day it felt as though the Reds had him in the bag, before hope dwindled again.
Ultimately, Liverpool thought they had signed Guehi after the centre-back was given permission to travel for a medical by Crystal Palace.
Unfortunately, the saga had one last sting in the tail, as Palace then blocked the move after Guehi had completed a medical.
Although there have been suggestions that the 25-year-old is not happy at how things played out, former England defender Nedum Onuoha has suggested why it could end up being a good thing for Guehi.

While fans were excited at the prospect of adding Guehi to the Liverpool squad, there was a lingering question mark over what his role would be.
The former Chelsea prospect has become an important member of the England team over recent years and will have an eye on making sure he is in the World Cup squad next summer.

And according to Onuoha, Guehi will have a better chance of ensuring his place in that team by staying and playing every week at Palace.
“I think he’ll be hugely disappointed because as a player when your head is turned it’s very hard to then turn back and say ‘everything’s fine,’ especially when it’s your club who pull you back in,” the pundit told ESPN FC.
“I think in some ways it’s a shame that it didn’t work out for him, but then also I couldn’t see him starting week in, week out for Liverpool.
“But to be playing for a club like Liverpool going for another Premier League title, playing in the Champions League, attempting to win everything they possibly can, him to get a chance to elevate himself to that level would have been great for him, but unfortunately Crystal Palace decided otherwise.”
Immediately after being blocked from joining Liverpool, Guehi headed off to join up with the England team.
Although he will likely be majorly disappointed at seeing the rug of a dream move pulled out from under him, Guehi was seen smiling as he arrived for national team duty.
After building a reputation as a relaxed and calm individual, it is perhaps not a surprise to see Guehi react in this way.
He was hardly going to come in fuming for the cameras.
Perhaps there is some truth in what Onuoha says, and Guehi will no doubt play more at Palace than he would at Liverpool this season.
But it’s still hard to see how if he were playing every other week with the Reds, Thomas Tuchel would not pick him for his squad in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
