Hugo Ekitike will remedy some of the problem for Liverpool, but if Diaz and Nunez do depart, more is needed.

This is where Alexander Isak comes into play, and while some supporters may feel Ekitike is enough, journalist Fabrizio Romano has outlined why Liverpool do not agree.

Initially, it had looked more than likely that Isak was not available this summer.

He still might not be.

But according to Romano, Liverpool sense that there is an opportunity to get the Swede, partly because no other club is in a position to rival them.

“With Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and Luis Diaz expected to leave, they want to reshape their attack to have players like Hugo Ekitike who can play on the wing if needed, to have creative players like Florian Wirtz,” the transfer expert told the Here We Go Podcast.

“They believe Alexander Isak is a perfect, perfect opportunity to give Arne Slot something special.

You can plan whatever you want, you can prepare whatever you want, but in the market there are moments you have the opportunity and Liverpool feel that this is their opportunity to get the player with many other clubs who are not working on a deal for Isak.”

“At the moment there is basically no direct competition,” Romano adds.

“That doesn’t mean that other clubs don’t want Isak, but it means that they are not ready to go for it in the moment.

They have the chance to go big and they don’t want to miss this.”

Obviously, it would matter little if Liverpool were the only club in for Isak and the player himself was not open to the transfer.

However, as Romano once again confirms, the 25-year-old very much is keen on joining Liverpool, and in fact has ruled out any other possibility this summer.

“The player has already been very clear with Saudi clubs at the beginning of the window,” says the journalist.

Liverpool are the clear favourites, they are the only club with concrete chances to sign the player.”
