Bilal El Khannouss’ move from Leicester City to Crystal Palace is now off after the Foxes raised enough funds from selling other players to aid their PSR concerns.

Crystal Palace are looking to add some much-needed firepower and quality to their ranks after the Eberechi Eze recently departed the club to join Arsenal.

The Eagles have been linked to a number of players to replace him, both prior to and since his transfer, with Football Insider revealing earlier in August that Leicester’s Bilal El-Khannouss was one of Crystal Palace’s top attacking midfield targets.

Leeds and Newcastle have both also been linked to El Khannouss after he notched two goals and three assists in the Premier League last term, while impressing throughout the campaign in a struggling Foxes team.

The Eagles are undoubtedly set to ramp up their efforts to sign numerous new playmakers now that Eze’s departure has been confirmed, but any move for El Khannouss now seems unlikely following a new report.

The Moroccan international has grabbed two assists in Leicester’s first two games back in the Championship this season, but he is not the only one of Marti Cifuentes’ players who have been seeking an exit this summer.

The Foxes recently allowed Kasey McAteer to join second-tier rivals Ipswich Town, while long-serving full-back James Justin wrapped up a £10milllion [BBC] move to Leeds on Monday (25 August).

Those sales have bolstered their financial standing regarding the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, via X, Leicester no longer need to sell any more players this summer to satisfy their PSR concerns.

He states that the Foxes’ new valuation of El Khannouss is £35m, and Palace won’t pay such a fee, so a move to take him to the South London outfit has now collapsed.

Football Insider verdict

The Eagles’ impressive 2024/25 campaign was fronted by the talismanic Eze and standout centre-back Marc Guehi, but the former has now left the club and Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool are hopeful of signing Guehi in a cut-price deal towards the end of the transfer window.

They have signed just two players so far this summer, in Borna Sosa and Walter Benitez, and Glasner recently raised fears around his Crystal Palace future by admitting that he has not yet held talks to extend his Eagles contract past next year.

With that said, the club need to make sure they have a strong end to the window, and are not only able to sign adequate replacements for Eze, but are also able to keep hold of Guehi despite this likely being their last chance to get a transfer fee before he leaves for free next summer.

Glasner is the most successful manager in the Eagles’ history after their FA Cup win last season, and this latest El Khannouss setback could make him even more unhappy, so they have to look into the market and sign some top players between now and next Monday (1 September).
