Birmingham City signed several players during the summer transfer window.

The Championship side brought in twelve new additions to the squad in the hopes of bolstering their side ahead of another gruelling season.

They enjoyed a historic campaign last year, winning the EFL League One with 111 points and there was an extra impotence placed on building up the squad to challenge in the Championship.

However, Birmingham’s form has been average at best to start the season, winning three, drawing one and losing two.

The Blues submitted a 24-man squad list to the EFL two weeks ago, leaving a space to register another player before January with injured duo Lee Buchanan and Scott Wright omitted.

However, manager Chris Davies has said the club have no interest in signing a free agent as things stand.

Former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was regularly linked with a move to Birmingham City this summer and still remains available after the termination of his contract with Besiktas.

Davies has explained his viewpoint on the matter, with the only thing potentially changing the mind of the manager is if a injury crisis grips his squad.

“I think we’re OK?

We’ve got Scott and Lee who are long-term injuries but if things really accelerate for Scott, who is a bit sooner, then they could take over that space.”

“You leave that as an option just in case there’s an injury crisis and you have that room to manoeuvre and get somebody else in.”

“We’re not planning or looking to fill that space unless we really need to.”

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was frozen out of the squad for the 2024/25 season by then manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is now an assistant to Arne Slot at Liverpool.

At the end of last season, there was a mutual agreement to terminate the Englishman’s contract and he was linked with a move to Birmingham City among other clubs.

Birmingham City will not be signing any free agents at this stage, ruling out any potential move for the former Liverpool midfielder.
