A body language expert has suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold appears like a husband initiating a divorce from his wife during his Liverpool exit video.

Alexander-Arnold shared a video on social media on Monday, announcing he will leave Anfield at the end of the season after a 21-year association with the club.

The video was, unsurprisingly, met with a mixed reception, with plenty of fans making their disappointment with the player clear.

The main bone of contention that supporters have with Alexander-Arnold leaving the club is that he is doing so for free, having allowed his contract to run down.

That means that the club will not receive a fee for a player who has market value of $85 million.

Alexander-Arnold has been accused of appearing insincere and robotic in his farewell video, but that is not the opinion of body language expert Judi James.

“This sounds and looks almost like a divorce video, as though Trent is a husband announcing a break-up and moving out of a long-term love affair but hoping there will be no bitterness for the sake of the kids," James said.

“There are signals of regret and even being slightly overwhelmed by emotion at one point.

“When he says the club is 'all I've ever known' there is a subtle change of state, and a hint of confused or mixed emotions as one eyebrow lifts in the middle while the other drops and he shakes his head from side to side

At any moment you expect him to add 'It's not you, it's me'.

“His expression becomes slightly more intense and fiercer as he gains some energy as he lets the fans know 'I'll be back' with an air of determination and intent.”

Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool contract is due to expire on June 30, at which point he will be free to join Real Madrid, but it is believed that Madrid is interested in striking a deal with the Reds for the right-back to make the move in time for the start of the Club World Cup, which gets under way on June 14.

In order for that to happen, Madrid would likely have to pay Liverpool a fee
