Xabi Alonso has ruled himself out of the Liverpool job this week by confirming his intentions to remain put at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Spaniard had been the favorite in most people's eyes to take over from Jürgen Klopp.
However, Alonso said on Friday that Leverkusen remains 'the right place for me to develop as a coach', meaning that he will not be in the running as Liverpool attempts to replace Klopp.
Rúben Amorim (Sporting CP) and Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton) are also on the shortlist as Michael Edwards and co find the best possible option.
The decision made by Alonso has not been universally popular, though.
Richard Keys had stuck his neck out by claiming earlier in the week that Alonso had decided to join Liverpool— and after quickly being proven completly wrong, he’s now fuming.

It is unlikely that the Liverpool job will come up again that quickly, though, with FSG seeking a long-term replacement for Klopp.

There is simply no guarantee that the Liverpool manager's job will come up when it suits Alonso any better than this.
