Ben Doak’s imminent move to Bournemouth comes after Liverpool are said to have discussed a buy-back clause prior to reaching an agreement.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson said that he’d only value Doak at £20million as the Cherries close in on the winger’s signature.
Football Insider revealed on 12 August that both Leeds and West Ham had their eyes on Doak with that fee of £20m mooted, but Bournemouth have since stepped up talks with Liverpool to agree a £25m deal.
The 19-year-old managed three goals and seven assists on loan at Middlesbrough last season after 10 appearances for Liverpool, and is set to join Andoni Iraola‘s side instead of a mooted return to Celtic.
Bournemouth’s £25m agreement for Doak comes just three years after Liverpool paid Celtic £600,000 to sign him, and Robinson expected the Reds to include a “decent” buy-back clause.
Robinson told Football Insider that Liverpool would be keen to have the option of bringing Doak back to Anfield, but Bournemouth’s imminent move for the teenager isn’t reported to include any such clauses.

Football Insider revealed on 12 August that Brentford were stepping up their pursuit of Dango Ouattara, and Bournemouth are now short of another key player after the Burkinabe completed his £42.5m move.
Speaking on the latest Inside Track, Robinson argued that Doak would be a welcome addition for Bournemouth despite still being a raw talent, but wasn’t sure if a £25m fee represents his true value.
“I think you’re looking at £20million for a player like Doak”, he told Football Insider.
“I know he’s only 19 years old, but there’s a lot of potential there.
I’d suspected Liverpool would put a decent buy-back clause in there as well.
“I would prioritise a move for him rather than anywhere else, but I’m not sure of the price that Bournemouth are playing, it’s a bit over the odds.”

Ouattara‘s £42.5m departure to Brentford saw Bournemouth’s incoming transfer fees this summer rise to almost £200m in total, with Doak set to become their fourth new signing in the other direction.
Robinson had told Football Insider that newly-promoted Leeds should prioritise a move for Manor Solomon over Doak, and they now have a clear run at the Spurs winger in the last month of the window.
Bournemouth have set the standard for clubs like Leeds following the progress they’ve made under Iraola, and adding Doak to the Cherries’ squad could see the young Scot take his game to the next level.
