Bournemouth have announced the signing of Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert, with the knock-on effect soon to be felt by Liverpool.

Negotiations remain ongoing over their own signing of Milos Kerkez from the Cherries, with the summer transfer window now open for good.

Amid the possibility of losing a key player, Andoni Iraola's side have been keen to protect their own interests so they can maintain progress from their recent ninth-place Premier League finish.

First reported as a £14.3m agreement with Rennes, they have now confirmed the capture of Truffert on a five-year contract, thus opening the door for Kerkez to leave with Liverpool hopeful of wrapping up a deal.

As the ECHO reported, the Hungarian international is next on the list after the club reached a £116m agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz.

Valued at £45m, dialogue has been opened with Bournemouth for a number of weeks.

The i Paper additionally claim that the Reds are set to conclude those negotiations by the end of the week with a £40-45m package at an advanced stage, the last focus being on how payments will be structured.

Thus, the South Coast club have helped pave the way for all concerned to get what they desire with the announcement of their own signing and Liverpool to possibly achieve theirs in the near future.

What the end of the Kerkez transfer saga will not fully answer is how the succession of the Anfield left-back berth is handled.

Already with the club are Andy Robertson, the custodian of the spot since 2017, and his deputy Kostas Tsimikas who signed in 2020.

With the former now 31, Arne Slot tended to switch between his two options during his first year as Liverpool head coach but did not fully trust in the latter, 29, to fully take command.

It was Tsimikas, as a fringe player, who dominated exit rumours before the summer started though Robertson has since emerged as a surprise target for Atletico Madrid.

The Spaniards are expected to table an offer, therefore handing a serious question to both club and player in the knowledge that his long-term replacement could come through the entrance door any day now.
