Liverpool are reportedly close to the signing of one Brazilian star already making waves in the Premier League.
Although the summer transfer window is yet to officially open, several names have cropped up as possible targets the Reds are watching in view of a potential move.
As widely reported, Arne Slot’s side are going to be active in the summer, with a number of positions to be strengthened when the window opens.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping department is set to wear a new look with the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia set to cause some changes to the current set-up.
One of Alisson Becker or Caoimhin Kelleher could depart this summer, while current third-choice goalkeeper Vít?zslav Jaroš is also expected to leave.
Elsewhere, a new left-back and centre-back are expected to arrive in the summer, while the uncertainty over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold could lead to the addition of a right-back.
Attack is another position widely reported to be a priority to Slot.
Alexander Isak, Assane Diao and a host of other names have pooped up as possible upgrades to the seemingly ineffective current duo of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
Although midfield has been one of Liverpool’s strongest areas this season, it is an area where the Reds will seek to make additions this summer. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is a player many Liverpool fans are dreaming of, but there has been no substantial report linking him with an Anfield switch just yet.
However, a player who has now been linked with a move to Liverpool is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ midfielder Joao Gomes.
According to a report from Brazil, the 24-year-old Brazilian, who moved to the Premier League in January 2023, is being monitored by Liverpool.
The report claims that there is a possibility that Liverpool will move for him in the summer.
“Midfielder João Gomes, who shone in Brazilian football and won titles such as the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil with Flamengo in 2022, continues to be popular in European football,” the report from Gazetadourubu said.
“Since being transferred to Wolverhampton, the player has shown great performance in the Premier League, arousing the interest of European football giants.
Liverpool are currently the main interested parties in signing the midfielder, but other clubs, such as Manchester United and Italian teams, are also monitoring the situation?
The tendency is that a possible transfer will take place in the next transfer window after the end of the national championships.”
The report also adds that Wolves are aware of interest in the player and will only sanction a deal in the region of £60m.
“If the deal is finalized for the speculated amount of approximately 60 million euros (R$381.7 million at the current exchange rate), Flamengo (the player’s former club) will be entitled to a significant share of the amount,” the report added.
“The Rio de Janeiro club would receive around 10% of the transaction, plus another 4% through FIFA’s Solidarity Mechanism, totalling R$53.4 million in the coffers of the Gávea team.”
