Brentford have had a tough start to their 2025-26 Premier League campaign, losing two of their opening matches so far.
It was always bound to be a tough season for the Bees after Thomas Frank departed the club for Tottenham Hotspur having been Brentford head coach since 2018.
Keith Andrews, Frank’s set piece coach, was promoted to the head coach role over the summer and the Irishman couldn’t have faced a harder start to life at the GTech Community Stadium.
It was a difficult summer for Andrews who lost three key stars from the side that comfortably finished 10th in the Premier League last season.

The first blow for Andrews was the sale of Bryan Mbeumo who left Brentford for Manchester United in a deal worth up to £70 million if add-on clauses are met.
Mbeumo was responsible for 20 of Brentford’s Premier League goals last season, and when his striker partner Yoane Wissa departed for £50m on deadline day it left Andrews with a 39 goal hole to fill between the two combined.
To rub salt into the wound, two key parts of Brentford’s spine under Frank, goalkeeper Mark Flekken and Christian Norgaard both left the club during the summer as well.

Perhaps the biggest departure at the club though, is the loss of Frank, after seven years at the club, who was instrumental in the club’s rise from the Championship to becoming an established Premier League team.
Brentford’s lack of reinvestment is a real cause for concern for Andrews, with the Irishman’s only marquee new signing being Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara who joined in a deal worth £42m.
As Brentford’s relegation rivals have strengthened in the transfer window, there is real cause for concern at the club that the drop looms, after a big summer exodus in West London.

This will be Brentford’s toughest Premier League season to date, with the three promoted sides undoubtedly stronger than any that have come up in the last two seasons.
Sunderland have started the brightest picking up six points from a possible nine, three of which came from a 2-1 win over Brentford, who will be cautiously looking over their shoulder a lot this campaign.
