The Irish goalkeeper’s time at Liverpool appears to be reaching its conclusion.
The arrival of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamadarshvili this summer at Liverpool signals the start of a new look goalkeeping department and will grant Caoimhin Kelleher the opportunity that he has been craving for years – regular first team football.
Stepping up remarkably in Alisson’s absence once again this season, he was knocked to the bench once the Brazilian returned to fitness.
Arguably one of, if not the best, second choice goalkeeper in the division, this window appears to be the time that the Irish shot stopper will depart Anfield.
Having risen through Liverpool’s academy and featured sixty-seven times for the Reds across six years, Caoimhin Kelleher has established himself as a brilliant alternative to Alisson when the Brazilian is unavailable or showing signs of fatigue.
Now, he is ready for his next step.
Several clubs have shown interest in Kelleher as the summer transfer window approaches but an update on a potential destination for the goalkeeper has now had a significant development.
We reported earlier that Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports News stated that Caoimhin Kelleher was the chosen replacement for Mark Flekken, with the current Brentford goalkeeper on the verge of a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
Now, Thomas has revealed that Brentford have now entered advanced negotiations to sign Caoimhin Kelleher.
However, any potential deal will only go through if Flekken leaves for Germany.
Bayer Leverkusen and Brentford have agreed a fee in the region of £11m inclusive of add-ons for the Netherlands goalkeeper Flekken.
Sky Sports Germany have reported that Flekken is ready to undergo a medical with the Bundesliga club.
However, the move is yet to be finalised.
It all rests on Flekken departing, but it does appear that Kelleher will be swapping Liverpool for London this summer as he closes in on a move to Brentford.
Brentford are pushing to sign Kelleher as they do not want to miss out on the goalkeeper, as they aware that they face competition from a number of clubs including Leeds and West Ham United.
