The transfer window is proving to be a revolving door for former Liverpool stars, with several familiar faces securing new moves as clubs across the world.
Philippe Coutinho, once the creative heartbeat of Liverpool’s midfield, has completed a move back to Brazil with Vasco da Gama.
The 33-year-old playmaker, who dazzled Anfield crowds before his high-profile transfer to Barcelona, has opted for a return to his boyhood club in Rio de Janeiro.
He agreed to a mutual contract termination with Aston Villa.
And another Jurgen Klopp favourite is making a switch back to the Premier League
Brentford have officially confirmed the signing of former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract
Despite a period of upheaval at the Gtech Community Stadium – head coach Thomas Frank and captain Christian Nørgaard both departed in June, with star goalkeeper Mark Flekken also leaving – the club moved swiftly to secure Henderson as their marquee midfield recruit for the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
The England veteran will don the red and white of Brentford until 2027, with the former Liverpool captain undergoing medical examinations and completing paperwork over the weekend.
The club deliberately delayed the public announcement until today out of respect for former teammate Diogo Jota and his family following the tragic passing of the forward earlier this month.
Henderson, 35, arrives on a free transfer after mutually terminating his contract with Ajax, where he made 57 appearances and captained the Dutch giants during an 18-month stint.
The England international brings 84 caps, a Champions League triumph (2019), and a Premier League title (2020) to west London – credentials that Brentford’s new boss Keith Andrews hopes will steady a squad in flux.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said:“When we became aware of Jordan’s availability, it was a pretty simple decision.
“We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is: he’s still phenomenally fit and he’s still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot.
“With the void of experienced players leaving the building – Christian Nørgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee – it was important to replace that.
“We’ve got a pretty young squad, overall, and we’ve got a lot of club experience, which is really important, with the likes of Vitaly Janelt, Mathias Jensen, Ethan Pinnock and Josh Dasilva, who is still at the club doing rehab.
“But what Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years?
He’s been at the forefront of driving for titles and Champions Leagues at a fantastic football club.
“He also has experience at international level with England and, with that, comes a level of experience, professionalism and dedication to his profession – that’s the exact way we want to be as a football club.
“He will drive standards and be a brilliant addition to the squad.”
