Brighton boast an extremely successful selling model.

In recent years they have been able to acquire top talent for cheap and then sell them on for significant profit.

They have overseen the sale of a number of high-profile players to clubs within the Premier League’s ‘top six’ in recent years including Joao Pedro, Moises Caicedo, Leandro Trossard, Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma.

One name that has not been mentioned but is certainly important to Liverpool is Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine joined the ranks at Liverpool after arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2023 for £35m.

Mac Allister became a World Champion whilst with Brighton, as Argentina beat France in the final of the tournament in December of 2022, a game in which Mac Allister grabbed an assist.

It is fair to say that the promise Mac Allister showed at Brighton has allowed him to go on to excel at Anfield.

So far, the midfielder has made 97 appearances for the Reds, scoring 14 times and registering 14 assists.

He has won both the Premier League and League Cup during his first two seasons with the club.

Brighton owner Tony Bloom has opened up on his regrets over selling Alexis Mac Allister, whilst speaking on Brighton’s official YouTube channel in an interview with former Seagulls striker Glen Murray.

“Well, in the last five years we’ve sold some top players who are playing at really big cubs and doing fantastically well.”

“It’s tough to name one of those players, but I guess I’d pick Alexis, who I wish was still at the club?

He did (win the Premier League) after winning the World Cup as a Brighton player.”

“And good luck to him

He’s a brilliant player, a brilliant person and I’m just delighted for him.”

Alexis Mac Allister enjoyed a successfully period at Brighton, but his move to Liverpool was necessary to develop his career and he is doing just that.

A vital component of Arne Slot’s title winning side, his form earned him a place in the most recent PFA Team of the Year.

Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Milos Kerkez and Mohamed Salah were the other Liverpool players featured.
