Tyler Morton's brother has expressed his appreciation to Liverpool fans for being "so supportive" after the 22-year-old secured a move to Lyon.

He played 14 times for the Reds over four seasons and also spent time on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

Brother Nathan has declared his affection for Liverpool supporters, posting an emotional tribute on social media following the club's confirmation of the move.

On X, he wrote: "Nothing will ever beat the feeling of watching my little brother play for the club we love every time he stepped on the pitch," accompanied by a red heart emoji.

This touching message prompted a wave of affection from the Liverpool faithful, with one writing: "Your brother's a gem.

Can't wait to see him getting more minutes - he's got everything to smash it in France!"

Another said: "Just so you know each and everyone of us at Liverpool loves Tyler.

He added: "Thanks everyone for your comments I've had a good hour reading through them all, very thankful to see everyone so supportive."

Although Morton failed to secure any silverware during his time at Anfield – having not clocked up enough appearances – the 22-year-old has enjoyed success elsewhere in his footballing journey.

The central midfielder played a crucial role in England's under-21s European Championship triumph in Slovakia during the summer.

Despite missing the semi-final clash with the Netherlands through suspension, Morton returned for the final and delivered the cross for the match-winning goal against Germany – helping to defend their trophy alongside former Red Jarell Quansah and current Liverpool star Harvey Elliott, who also looks set to move on.

In Liverpool's statement confirming the youngster's exit, the club wished Morton well in his future endeavours, as they said: "Everyone at LFC would like to wish Tyler all the very best for the future."

The Reds remain committed to strengthening their squad as they target future dominance across both domestic and European competitions.

Eddie Howe's side are said to only be prepared to part with the Sweden international if they can secure a replacement – though they're currently losing in their battle with Manchester United to land RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Despite needing to bed in some marquee signings and tweaking the 2024/25 Premier League title-winning squad, Liverpool manager Slot believes his side has plenty of opportunity to gel and flourish as a unit, having retained a solid core of established stars.

Speaking to The Athletic after their pre-season Asian tour, the Dutchman said: "Yeah, but the majority of the team has stayed the same.
