Ruben Amorim will be depending on Bruno Fernandes to unleash his talents if Man United are to claim victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Bryan Mbeumo has been tipped to rip apart Man City in the Manchester derby on Sunday, 14 September, with Pep Guardiola‘s side yet to find consistency in the Premier League this season.

The Citizens are currently sitting 13th in the league table, four spots below their direct rivals after three matches, the same rivals who are enduring an incredibly difficult start to the season under Amorim.

Much like his counterpart, Guardiola is at risk of being sacked over City’s back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Brighton, and that losing streak could continue in dramatic fashion.

Fernandes rejected offers to leave Man United this summer, and now, he could use a superpower to increase the pressure on the Citizens.

According to Squawka, Fernandes leads the line for completed through-balls since the 2022-23 campaign, registering 51 in Europe’s top five leagues.

Impressive.

What makes the stat all the more incredible is that he ranks far above former Man City star, Kevin de Bruyne, notching 17 more through-balls than the Belgian, albeit in 31 more games.

During his five-year spell at Old Trafford, the Portugal international has notched 86 assists in 294 appearances, though that does not compare to that of De Bruyne, who has 177 assists in 422 games.

The latter failed to create last season, spending much of the season on the sidelines with injury, and that likely played a part in such a disparity emerging between the two stars.

Fernandes has faced Man City the most of any club during his career, appearing in 15 clashes against them, but he has been on the losing side eight times.

However, in addition to five wins, he has notched four wins and four assists, becoming one of his favourite teams to play against, and Amorim will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday.

Mbeumo has also been joined by Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha in the final third, but it is still fair to say that the Red Devils are lacking in the defensive third despite a summer of big-money spending.
