Man United captain Bruno Fernandes sent a heartfelt message to a former teammate ahead of their return to Old Trafford.
Manchester United wrapped up their pre-season tour of the United States on a high, finishing top of the Premier League Summer Series despite a 2-2 draw with Everton in their final match.
Fernandes, however, came under fire for his role in Everton’s second goal following a clash with Iliman Ndiaye, which saw him kick out at the forward, who then launched the attack that led to the equaliser.
Still, United had previously secured wins over West Ham and Bournemouth and now return to Old Trafford for their final pre-season fixture, where a familiar face will be arriving back at the club.
United are set to host Serie A side Fiorentina in their final pre-season fixture before the Premier League campaign begins, and it marks the return of a familiar face in David de Gea.
Fernandes reposted United’s official announcement of the club’s return to Old Trafford on 9 August and captioned the post with a heartfelt message, writing: “See you soon my friend” tagging the Spanish goalkeeper, alongside a heart emoji.
De Gea left Man United in the summer of 2023 after more than a decade of service, having made over 500 appearances for the club.
During his time in Manchester, he won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League before departing when his contract expired.

He signed for Fiorentina last summer and the 34-year-old is expected to feature in his return to Manchester this week.
Following several high-profile errors from Andre Onana last season, some Man United fans had called for the club to re-sign De Gea — but he committed his future to Fiorentina by signing a new deal until 2028 in May.

Despite Fernandes continuing to lead the team on the pitch, his future at United remains uncertain heading into the new season.
Football Insider revealed on 4 August that Man United would be open to selling Fernandes if a “huge” offer were to arrive before the transfer window closes.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr are now reportedly the latest club showing interest in him but Fernandes previously turned down a move to Al Hilal earlier in the window, despite their willingness to pay a fee of up to £100 million.
It remains to be seen whether United would reconsider their stance if a similar offer materialises this summer.
