Newcastle United’s dressing rioom is growing increasingly divided by the Alexander Isak transfer saga this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about the impact of Isak’s continued transfer standoff.
Isak dropped a huge bombshell on Wednesday by releasing a statement on social media which accused Newcastle of broken promises and truth being lost, and stating that “the relationship can’t continue”.
The Magpies soon released a statement of their own to address Isak‘s claims and reaffirm their position on his future, with Liverpool told indirectly that the striker won’t be sold for less than his asking price.
Bruno Guimaraes then took matters into his own hands with an Instagram post alongside a Newcastle badge to underline his loyalty to the club, amid speculation over both his and Anthony Gordon‘s futures.
Sources have told Football Insider that Guimaraes‘ post highlights the divide among Newcastle’s players over the stance taken by Isak this summer, which has the potential to develop into a “toxic” situation.
Keith Wyness told Football Insider that a “public apology” could be on the cards for Isak if he fails to seal a move this summer, but sources have said the situation could easily get worse before it gets better.

Football Insider revealed back in June that Liverpool could table a £75million bid for Gordon, but his and Guimaraes’ responses to transfer links this summer have been a stark contrast to Isak’s own stance.
Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said that Guimaraes’ response to Isak’s statement is a clear display of loyalty to Newcastle, but it’s unclear which other squad members feel the same way.
“I don’t think it’ll have a massive impact on other players, what’s going on with Isak”, he told Football Insider.
“It was interesting that five minutes after he posted that Instagram story, admitting that promises were broken, the truth is lost, the relationship can’t continue – Bruno Guimaraes posted on his own social media with a picture of him behind the Newcastle badge.
“That obviously shows where his loyalties lie, he is sticking with Newcastle, and there’s been reports of a divide among some of the players as well.
“It’s not great for Newcastle, all of this going on.
There’s a divide among the players; it could lead to potentially a real toxic situation – Newcastle don’t want that.”

Newcastle made clear in their retorting statement to Isak that “the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired”, indicating that Liverpool must break the bank in order to sign the Sweden international.
The Reds have already seen a £110million bid rejected by Newcastle, who are holding out for a sum closer to a record-shattering £150m in order to part ways with one of the world’s very best strikers.
Isak’s position on a move away from St.
James’ Park couldn’t be much clearer, but it remains to be seen if he, Newcastle or Liverpool will move to finally break the deadlock and bring this saga to an end.
