Bruno Guimaraes and Cristian Romero were involved in a heated altercation in a pre-season friendly between Tottenham and Newcastle.

The Lilywhites’ penultimate pre-season fixture against the Magpies took place in the capital of South Korea as Spurs legend Son Heung-Min bidded farewell.

The club captain made 454 appearances for the north London side and left the pitch to a clamor of applause as the Korean looks set to move to LAFC.

His final match for the club he has called home for 10 years ended 1-1 in a feisty affair in Asia, which saw a few heated exchanges between the Premier League sides.

This included Joelinton catching Archie Gray round the face, despite the game supposing to be a “pre-season friendly”.

Just before half-time, the South American pair were caught in the Spurs defensive box as the Brazilian put his hands around the Argentine’s neck.

The feud started twenty seconds earlier when Newcastle’s metronome midfielder kept the ball from the World Cup winner after his tackle culminated in nothing.

Both nations are known for their fierce footballing rivalry as two foes were gripped in an on-pitch battle yet again.

Football Insider verdict

The expected departure of the Korean winger is a sad day for Spurs fans but also a moment that needed to happen.

At 33-years-old and with one-year left on his contract, there was little value left in the number seven, as demonstrated by his array of poor performances in his last year at the club.

Who proceeds to snap up his starting spot remains to be seen with several high-profile candidates hungry to make the left wing their own.

Wilson Odobert is one of the most exciting French prospects right now and after some decent displays in the back end of last season should be in line to seize the left-hand side.

The tricky winger possesses bags of pace and, after missing half of last season with injury, will want to prove his worth to Thomas Frank.

Israeli Manor Salomon is looking to turn around his Spurs career after impressing on loan at Leeds in the Championship last year.

Under Daniel Farke, the winger notched 10 goals and 12 assists in 39 games for the Peacocks.

Having missed much of the 2023-24 season with injury, the number 14 has a great opportunity to demonstrate his quality under a new manager to come back into favour.

New signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham also offers an intriguing alternative to perhaps play on the other wing, depending on how the Danish manager opts to utilise him.

The Ghanian was predominantly used as a striker or right-winger last season, but the ex-Brentford boss may decide to use his left foot to hold the width.
