Bruno Guimaraes responds as Yoane Wissa shares unexpected update amid injury blow

Fri 26 September 2025 8:45, UK

Newcastle forward Yoane Wissa shared an update to supporters as he awaits his first appearance for the club.

Newcastle are gearing up to face Arsenal at St James’ Park on 28 September as the side look to replicate last season’s win over the Gunners.

However, one player they will be without is new signing Wissa, who sustained a knee injury whilst on international duty.

Wissa could miss up to seven Newcastle games with suggestions he won’t be fit until after October’s international break.

In his absence, the Magpies can turn to club-record signing Nick Woltemade as their striker option, or Anthony Gordon, who has often filled that void.

Now, the striker posted an update on social media showcasing his latest activities, which have earned the attention of his teammates, as fans anticipate his long-awaited debut.

Wissa shared multiple photos on Instagram whilst recovering from injury, including a photo from the crowd during Newcastle’s loss to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Wissa completed a move to Newcastle in the summer from Brentford, with the striker doing everything he could to push a move through, despite the Bees rejecting multiple offers.

A move on deadline day was then completed, but Wissa suffered a knee injury and prevented him from making his debut.

Still, the striker was influential under Thomas Frank last term, netting 20 Premier League goals and providing five assists in all competitions.

While the fans and his teammates will likely not see him for another few weeks on the pitch, his presence in the stands could be a reminder of what he could soon bring to the team.

With Wissa and Woltemade both signing for considerable fees this summer, William Osula was close to leaving the club.

But it has now been revealed that PIF blocked Osula’s exit as they didn’t want to lose him permanently.

While that decision proved beneficial amid Wissa’s injury, Football Insider revealed that Osula could still leave Newcastle, especially if his minutes are reduced.

Time will tell if the striker can still prove himself once Wissa returns.
