Leny Yoro and Bryan Mbeumo have both been front and centre of Manchester United’s mixed start to the new season.

Man United ended their summer transfer business with a late move for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who arrives at Old Trafford for £18million in a bid to displace Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Much of the Red Devils’ recruitment earlier in the window focused on the front end of Ruben Amorim‘s team, however, with almost £200m spent on three big-money additions to United’s ailing forward line.

Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko are yet to find the net so far in their young Old Trafford careers, but Mbeumo has already done so on two occasions with strikes against Grimsby in their Carabao Cup defeat and Burnley in their first Premier League win of the season.

Mbeumo’s first United goal came in less than ideal circumstances at Grimsby as Amorim’s side sealed a late draw in their cup tie, only for the Cameroon forward to miss the decisive penalty in the shoot-out.

Yoro has also seen his contribution to the Red Devils come largely in vain so far this term; not helped by the shock statistic that Yoro was yet to start in a Man United victory over a current Premier League team.

The Frenchman did put in a starring display against Fulham in the draw which yielded that surprise stat, and Yoro has jetted off on international duty after United’s win over Burnley ended his unwanted record.

After a training session with France‘s Under-21s, Yoro said; “Back in [France]”, and amid a wave of likes from his Man United team-mates in response, Mbeumo commented to say: “My son”.

Football Insider Verdict

Man United may be heading into the international break off the back of a victory, but a last-ditch 3-2 win over Burnley courtesy of Bruno Fernandes‘ 97th-minute penalty has done little to paper over the cracks.

Mbeumo may be off the mark in both league and cup for United, but he’s yet to start alongside Cunha and Sesko in Amorim’s front three with either Mason Mount or Amad preferred so far this season.

The Red Devils’ new frontline must take shape sooner rather than later, and with Lammens also fresh through the doors at Old Trafford, Amorim also faces a decision over who gets the nod in goal for the Manchester Derby on 14 September.
