Yoane Wissa has maintained his “love and respect” for Brentford after finally completing his move to Newcastle United.
Brentford have dug their heels in and then some this summer to prevent Wissa joining Bryan Mbeumo at the Gtech Community Stadium’s exit door, after sanctioning the latter’s £71million move to Man United.
Wissa had his heart set on a move to the North East, however, and released an explosive exit statement on the penultimate day of the transfer window which led Newcastle to accelerate their pursuit of him.
Deadline day saw everything fall into place for both clubs as Liverpool set the ball rolling by completing their record-breaking £125m move for Alexander Isak, clearing the path for Newcastle to finalise Wissa’s signing.

Isak’s move to Liverpool has finally been completed after he refused to play, train or travel and sacrificed a £5million loyalty bonus from Newcastle, forcing his way out in a saga spanning the entire summer.
Wissa has taken a similar approach in West London and went on strike himself to push through a move to Newcastle, and the DR Congo striker got his wish when Brentford agreed his £55m transfer on Monday.
Brentford and Wissa’s relationship may have taken a turn for the worse prior to his forced exit, but the Bees’ departed number 11 said he had no ill will towards the club in a concise exit message on Instagram.

In a post liked by Mbeumo and several other former team-mates, Wissa said: “See you soon.
Thank you. Wiss”.

Football Insider Verdict
Newcastle’s three previously rejected bids for Wissa all came with the reasoning that Brentford needed to bring in replacements before sanctioning a sale, despite signing Dango Ouattara for £42.5million.
The versatile Bournemouth forward was billed as a replacement for Mbeumo, rather than Wissa, but Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Aston Villa had hijacked Brentford’s move for Max Beier.
Beier signed for neither club in the end as Brentford instead sealed a late loan for Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson, but few fans will feel that this is the like-for-like replacement to fill the void left by Wissa’s 19 Premier League goals last season.
