It was a positive day for the Gunners as their preparations ahead of a crucial game in the Premier League calendar looms as they visit Anfield next week.
The London side ran out 5-0 victors against Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, with new star signing Viktor Gyokeres opening his Premier League account with a brace at the Emirates.
However, key players Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka both had to leave proceedings early on Saturday, after injuries meant that they could no longer continue.
Odegaard felt discomfort in his shoulder, whilst Saka pulled up with a hamstring injury, the same hamstring that has been holding him back over the last few seasons.
At the age of 23 years of age and over 250 appearances for Arsenal under his belt already, you can understand why problems may be starting to occur for the young winger.
Last season came with significant periods of absence, with Saka missing four months of action.
Following the game, Mikel Arteta feared that the injury Saka has suffered was “significant” and would’ve led to him being ruled out of Arsenal’s crunch fixture against Liverpool at Anfield.
However, Gary Jacob for the Times has revealed that Bukayo Saka’s injury is not as bad as first feared.
He states that: “Arsenal have received a boost after early indications showed that the injuries suffered by Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are not as bad as first feared.
The pair have both had scans today, but it is unclear at this stage whether they will miss the Liverpool game.
Mikel Arteta had this to say on Saka’s early withdrawal on Saturday:
“I haven’t spoken to the doctor yet but for Bukayo to come off, it’s significant.”
“He felt something while he was sprinting.
So let’s wait.”
Odegaard and Saka’s potential absence from the club’s visit to Liverpool would be felt, especially considering that Arsenal’s injury list is already piling up.
If Odegaard and Saka do face lengthy spells on the sidelines, they will join Kai Havertz, Ben White, Gabriel Jesus and Christian Norgaard in the treatment room.
