Burnley were denied a staggering 25-match record due to a horror decision from midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.
A late handball from Mejbri cost Scott Parker’s side a precious home point against the Premier League champions.
It was a tough game for Liverpool, who found it difficult to break down a stubborn Burnley side, with Arne Slot having to make an early first half change, taking of Milos Kerkez who started the game poorly.

The early headlines were stolen by Slot’s shock omission of Alexander Isak from his match day squad, but it proved no worry for Liverpool, with Mohamed Salah converting the winning penalty late on.
Had Burnley been able to hold on they’d have extended their staggering unbeaten run at Turf Moor, which was evidently stuck down at 24 matches long.

Parker’s last match in the Premier League against Liverpool was a 9-0 drubbing in 2022, while the former-Fulham man was at Bournemouth, so that prospect seemed unlikely.
Burnley are part of a trio of promoted teams that many believe have the best chance of ending the two year stretch of every promoted side subsequently getting relegated from the Premier League.

Meanwhile Leeds United and Burnley, last season’s top two, have both secured a win in the early weeks of the season, with Leeds also adding a point to their tally against Newcastle United.
With a string performances against Manchester United and Liverpool yielding plenty of positives, Parker will hope that his side can show they’re capable of securing Premier League survival this season.
