Burnley's gameday program for the meeting with Liverpool featured a nice touch, with Diogo Jota's name included in the Reds' squad list on the back of the publication.

Jota's death in a car crash on July 3 sent the soccer world into mourning, and Liverpool retired his squad number in honor of the late forward.

Jota wore the number 20 throughout his five years at Liverpool, and Burnley produced a classy touch as '20 Diogo Jota' appeared on the back of the program for Sunday's game, which the visitors won late on thanks to a Mohamed Salah penalty.

Burnley was praised for the touch by Liverpool fans on social media, with one writing: "Oh that’s lovely.

I noticed the Burnley fans didn’t boo or interrupt when our fans sang Jota’s song at the 20th minute."

Another said: "In fairness, Burnley fans were doing everything they could to be hostile, which is fine

But when the Diogo tune happened at 20 minutes, they were completely respectful."

Jota had a good record against Burnley, scoring three goals in four appearances for Liverpool against the Clarets.

After Liverpool required late goals to beat Bournemouth on the opening day of the season, head coach Arne Slot said that he wished he could have called on Jota as the Reds searched for a winner at Anfield.

The same was surely the case on Sunday, as Liverpool required a 95th-minute penalty from Mohamed Salah to get past Burnley.

Salah has scored two goals in four appearances at the start of the season, but his overall level has been disappointing, and Slot's refusal to withdraw him in Lancashire surprised some.

Slot was asked after the game whether he thought about withdrawing his star forward and responded: "I thought about almost every substitution

"But in the end you always come back to, ‘I don’t want to leave this stadium with a draw thinking I didn’t bring all my attackers in, all the guys that can score a goal.’

"In another game you maybe wonder is it worth the risk to play with seven attackers, but against a team that plays with 11 players in their own 18-yard box that’s not, I think, a big risk then and that’s why we decided to do that

"And taking Mo off – if you need a goal, it will probably happen this season or maybe next season, but it probably won’t happen a lot."
