Newcastle United and Liverpool meet tonight in a highly anticipated Premier League clash, with plenty at stake for both sides.

Both sides will be eager to make a statement in this fixture, which is a rematch of last season’s Carabao Cup final.

On that occasion, Newcastle stunned Liverpool to lift their first domestic trophy in 70 years.

However, the main talking point ahead of this encounter is Alexander Isak, the man who scored the decisive goal at Wembley.

The Swedish striker has been at the center of transfer drama this summer, with Newcastle rejecting a £110million bid from Liverpool.

Isak has since accused the club of breaking a promise, as he pushes for a move to the reigning Premier League champions.

The saga has escalated in recent weeks, prompting a strong response from Newcastle.

As a result, Isak’s future is set to be one of the hottest topics of discussion before, during, and after this highly anticipated showdown to close out the Premier League weekend.

Speaking ahead of the game, Arne Slot said: “I think if you go to Newcastle you know what to expect.

We played them three times last season and twice their intensity levels were above ours.

“In the away game, especially in the first 60 minutes, they were so, so, so intense and fully deserved to have the lead?

In the League Cup final, they were more intense than us as well.

“So, I don’t think they need anything to add for them to be intense if they play at St

James’ Park.

“Apart from the intensity, it’s a very good team, they have also a team that can make it a fight if you want to call it like this, they have players for this but they also have players that are so comfortable on the ball.

“So, one of the best teams in the league and one of the most difficult away games you can have in the season, especially as you say here, ‘under the lights’.

Liverpool starting XI: Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Wirtz, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Salah, Gakpo, Ekitike, Jones.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Endo, Bradley, Chiesa, Leoni, Elliott, Robertson, Ngumoha.
