Jack Harrison made a winning return to Elland Road as Leeds United opened their Premier League campaign against some familiar faces.
Leeds‘ relegation to the Championship in 2023 saw Harrison and several other players activate loan clauses included in their contracts, with Brenden Aaronson and Maximilian Wober returning last season.
Aaronson rebuilt his reputation as a result of his part in the Whites’ charge to the Championship title and Premier League promotion as a result, but Harrison chose to spend a second season on loan at Everton.
Football Insider revealed that Harrison had “burned his bridges” at Leeds ahead of his return to West Yorkshire, but Daniel Farke welcomed the winger back into his plans as the Whites kicked off their top-flight return against none other than Everton.

Harrison was given a baptism of fire in his first competitive match back at Elland Road, but ended up on the winning side as Leeds edged Everton 1-0 on 18 August thanks to Lukas Nmecha‘s winning penalty.
Wilfried Gnonto‘s withdrawal in the 67th minute saw Harrison introduced to a chorus of boos from the home crowd, reflecting damaged sentiment for the 28-year-old after his two-year spell in the wilderness.
He was involved in the build-up to the controversial James Tarkowski handball which yielded Nmecha’s decisive spot-kick, and Harrison posted on Instagram on 19 August to celebrate Leeds’ victory.

Harrison’s message simply said “cheers”, and another former Evertonian – Leeds’ recently-signed free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin – responded to say: “Ma boiiiiiii MOT”.

Football Insider Verdict
Unlike Harrison, Calvert-Lewin didn’t get on the pitch at Elland Road having only completed his move to Leeds four days before the match, as only the second attack-minded signing of a busy summer so far.
Leeds are closing in on another arrival in the form of Noah Okafor after agreeing a £17million fee with AC Milan, and the Swiss international’s arrival could harm both Harrison and Calvert-Lewin’s game-time.
Okafor‘s preferred positions are as a left winger or centre-forward, and while Farke will appreciate more depth in attack, Calvert-Lewin and Harrison will hope they can maintain their places in the pecking order.
