Caoimhin Kelleher has been Liverpool’s dependable second-choice keeper for years.

Anytime he’s been called upon, he’s delivered.

Kelleher has always looked the part whether it’s domestic cups or stepping in for Alisson in the Premier League or Europe.

But the reality is, at 26, he’s still behind Alisson Becker—one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

No matter how well he performs, he returns to the bench when the Brazilian is fit.

And now, things could get even tougher.

Liverpool are expected to bring in Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia this summer.

That means more competition for Kelleher, who already has limited chances.

With just over a year left on his current deal and 20 starts this season—mainly during Alisson’s injury—there are serious questions about his future at Anfield.

This isn’t the first time Kelleher has been advised to leave for more regular football.

Back in mid-2024, Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson made a similar point in a press conference?

Now, he’s repeated that message—more clearly than ever.

The Ireland boss made his opinion clear.

He wants his number one keeper to be playing regular club football—and that might not be at Liverpool.

“I just want Caoimhin to go to a club where he will play on a regular level,” Hallgrimsson said during a media session in Dublin last week as per Irish Echo.

“He has been playing at the highest level, whether it’s the Champions League or the EPL and done really well.”

“I just want him to be happy and play regularly.”

He didn’t stop there.

“Caoimhin has spoken about it himself, but I don’t mind where he goes so long as he is playing on a regular basis because he is too good not to be playing,” the Icelandic-born manager added.

Kelleher has started all eight games under Hallgrimsson in the Ireland setup, with Gavin Bazunu recovering from a knee injury suffered while on loan at Standard Liege.

“I am not going to say that Gavin is definitely out of the June games,” Hallgrimsson explained.

“But we want him ready for the World Cup in September.”

“It was a recurrence of his knee injury, so he needed a small operation.”

With Liverpool reportedly valuing Kelleher at £40 million and Leeds United, Bournemouth, and Newcastle all linked, a summer move now seems more likely than ever.
