Chelsea and Liverpool booked their places on Tuesday night, with the Reds edging Southampton thanks to a late winner and the Blues coming from behind to beat Lincoln.
Alexander Isak, making only his third appearance since joining on deadline day, broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time after converting a pass from Federico Chiesa.
Moments earlier, Adam Armstrong had rattled the crossbar for Southampton, who posed problems for the hosts throughout the contest.
The visitors drew level 14 minutes from time through Shea Charles, but Hugo Ekitike restored Liverpool’s lead with a close-range finish from another Chiesa assist.
Ekitike’s joy was short-lived, however, as he was sent off for a second yellow card after removing his shirt in celebration.
Chelsea and Liverpool are joined by Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City, who all secured comfortable victories against lower-league opposition.
Crystal Palace, Brentford and Fulham are also through, with the fourth-round fixtures set to take place in the week commencing October 27.
Newcastle, last season’s winners after defeating Liverpool at Wembley, will continue their title defence in the next stage.
Below is the full draw:
Arsenal v Brighton
Grimsby Town v Brentford
