Steve Bruce's West Bromwich Albion will face Championship rivals and his old club Sheffield United in the pick of the first round Carabao Cup ties.

Another intriguing clash sees two-time winners Norwich City take on 2011 winners Birmingham City.

The draw came on a busy day for the EFL, with the league fixtures for all 72 clubs being released and the first round draw for the Papa Johns Trophy also taking place.

Holders Liverpool, who overcame Chelsea in last season's final at Wembley on penalties, will enter in round three along with the six other Premier League sides in Europe: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and West Ham.

Among the eye-catching groups in the EFL Trophy is the one containing Salford City and Liverpool's under-21s whilst Wayne Rooney's Derby County will face Manchester City's youngsters in one of their three group clashes.

Of the relegated trio to come down from the Premier League, only Norwich City will be in the hat for the first round.

Those two will enter at the second round stage along with the 13 Premier League sides not competing in Europe: Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Leeds, Leicester, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Wolves.
