Celtic handed transfer blow as valuation revealed on target Sebastian Tounekti

Thu 28 August 2025 17:38, UK

Celtic are continuing to struggle in the transfer market, as Brendan Rodgers frantically searches for attacking additions before the window shuts.

Rodgers has been frustrated at Celtic’s lack of transfer business, and their attacking flaws showed as they were denied by a place in the league stages of the Champions League by Kazakhstan side Kairat Almaty.

Following a 0-0 draw over the two legs, Kairat beat Celtic in a penalty shootout to progress, with the Hoops now dropping down to the Europa League.

Concerns have been raised on Rodgers’ future following the defeat with Football Insider exclusively revealing that Nottingham Forest are lining up the Celtic boss to be their next manager.

Celtic have lost Jota to a long-term injury, and Nicolas Kuhn left to join Como, whilst Daizen Maeda’s lack of form is a concern.

A winger is therefore a top priority for Rodgers, and Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha is close to joining Celtic.

Sebastian Tounekti is also a target, though according to the Daily Record, [28 August], Celtic have had a bid of £2.6million has been rejected by Hammarby for the 23-year-old.

Football Insider Verdict

The transfer window shuts in four days time and Celtic are still awaiting additions to strengthen the squad.

Anger towards the Celtic board intensified following their Champions League exit, and many believe that if money is not spent then Rodgers will walk for a second time.

Celtic have failed to kick-on following their progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League last season, and even their current squad doesn’t looked equipped for the Europa League.

Deals for Balikwisha and Tounekti would be a good start to adding goal scoring wingers, further creativity, and fresh faces to Rodgers’ squad.
