Calvin Stengs could be available for a “relatively small fee” this summer as Celtic prepare a bid for the Feyenoord wideman, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about Celtic’s pursuit of a new winger this summer.
Celtic have already made contact with Feyenoord over Stengs‘ availability in the final days of the transfer window, after the 26-year-old was restricted to just 12 Eredivisie appearances through injury last season.
Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Celtic are accelerating talks with Royal Antwerp as they bid to sign another winger in Michel-Ange Balikwisha, but Stengs could also be available for a cut-price fee.
Sources have told Football Insider that with Stengs into the final two years of his contract at Feyenoord, Celtic may only have to pay a knock-down price to bolster their wide stocks with a Dutch international.

Celtic’s approaches for Stengs and Balikwisha come against the backdrop of Premier League interest in star wideman Daizen Maeda, with the Japanese international currently deputising as a centre-forward.
Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that Stengs’ availability for a potential cut-price fee could be too good for the Hoops to turn down, despite concerns over his injury record.

“We know that Celtic are looking to bring in a new wideman”, he told Football Insider.
“Stengs is a player that has emerged on Celtic’s radar – he had a difficult season for Feyenoord, a few injury problems, so that may be a concern for Celtic.
“He’s into the final two years of his contract with Feyenoord, so could be available for a cut-price fee this summer.
“Celtic are looking at that, seeing there could be real potential to land a former Dutch international for a relatively small fee with a bid imminent.”

Brendan Rodgers has made his desire for a new centre-back, winger and striker clear at Parkhead this summer, but there’s little doubt that Celtic’s most pressing need comes in the central attacking position.
Football Insider has revealed that talks with Jamie Vardy are far from advanced despite the 38-year-old striker still being a free agent, and the likes of Adam Idah being woefully out of form so far this season.
Balikwisha and Stengs would each be worthwhile additions for Celtic after the departure of Nicolas Kuhn, but neither will answer the question of who should be leading the line for Rodgers’ side going forward.
