Going out on loan can often provide players with a new lease of life, a fresh start after struggling to make an impression.

Struggling for game time at your parent club can open the door for a loan move that can offer a player regular game-time, something that every footballer strives to have.

Whilst performing at a big club like Liverpool would be every footballer’s dream, sometimes it isn’t everyone’s reality, and dropping down a division or two can often be a way to rebuild a career.

There is currently a Liverpool loanee at Derby County.

Derby County achieved their goal of staying in the Championship this season after a tense final day.

It was their first season back in the division and their survival hopes went down to the last day as their fate rested on the Luton game – if Luton lost, Derby stayed up.

Unfortunately for Luton Town they found themselves 3-1 down after 33 minutes and 5-1 down just after the hour mark.

They managed to pull two goals back, but a 5-3 defeat confirmed back-to-back relegations for the Hatters and Derby County’s Championship status secured for another year.

With their survival fight won, attention switches to this summer’s transfer window and Derbyshire Live has reported that Derby County manager John Eustace has expressed his desire to keep Nathaniel Phillips at the club.

“Yeah for sure.

The match-winning header last week was awesome.”

Phillips grew to become a key player for Eustace’s side and his winning header last week against Hull City proved to be crucial in keeping Derby County up.

The Rams could face competition if they were to strike a deal for Nathaniel Phillips.

His experience at Championship level and at the highest level with Liverpool could open up many possibilities for the English defender.

Phillips is out of contract with Liverpool this summer and doesn’t look set to be introduced into Arne Slot’s plans and so an exit is expected.

Nothing is officially confirmed on Phillips’ Liverpool future, but staying at the club does appear to be unlikely.

Derby County will believe they are in a strong position to sign the defender, after his hugely successful time at the club.
