Chelsea appear to have beaten Liverpool to the signing of one the Reds’ summer targets.
Liverpool have been busy in the transfer window, bringing in six new players.
The latest addition to Arne Slot’s side is Hugo Ekitike, whose move to Liverpool was officially confirmed on Wednesday.
Liverpool announced on Wednesday that they had agreed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for the Frenchman, making him the seventh player to join the Reds this summer following the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi, Florian Wirtz, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman.
However, Liverpool are not done in the transfer market.
Despite signing one player in almost every position, the Reds are expected to add a few more players before the window closes.
One player that is linked with a move to the Premier League champions is Jorrel Hato.
The Dutchman was one of the main names Liverpool were said to be interested in signing earlier in the window.
His visit to Anfield in January raised hopes that transfer talks were on and the defender.
However, the visit was actually just a friendly invitation from compatriot Ryan Gravenberch.
Still, it didn’t stop reports linking Liverpool with a move for the versatile defender, who can play both center back and left back.
But it appears the Hato ship has sailed, with Chelsea and the defender now reaching an agreement personal terms.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Ajax and Chelsea are in the final stage of negotiations for the young defender.
“Chelsea have reached agreement on personal terms with Jorrel Hato and the defender has asked Ajax to leave!,” Romano posted on X.
“Negotiations advancing to final stages, as fee discussed now is around €40m.
“Hato informed Ajax management and the manager of his clear desire to join.”
Hato featured in 31 Eredivisie matches this season, contributing two goals and six assists, while helping Ajax keep 13 clean sheets.
